A straightforward, cost-effective sediment filter for Jumbo (Big Blue) housings — pure polypropylene, no taste, no odour, no colour transfer.
The Pentair Polyspun Jumbo is a 100% polypropylene spun sediment cartridge for standard Jumbo (Big Blue) 4.5" housings. Available in 10" and 20" lengths and five micron ratings. The polypropylene construction provides good chemical resistance and will not impart any taste, odour, or colour to the water passing through it.
Select your size and micron rating using the dropdowns above.
Which micron rating do I need?
| Micron | Filtration level | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| 1 micron | Fine | Final stage filtration, protecting UV lamps and sensitive downstream equipment |
| 5 micron | Fine-medium | Second or final stage sediment filtration |
| 10 micron | Medium | Middle-ground rating for moderate fine sediment loads |
| 20 micron | Medium-coarse | First stage pre-filtration on bore, tank, or river water with moderate sediment |
| 50 micron | Coarse | First stage pre-filtration where sediment load is high |
General guidance: run coarser ratings upstream and finer ratings downstream. A common two-stage setup uses a 20 or 50 micron in the first housing and a 1 or 5 micron in the second.
Which size do I need?
- 10" (250mm) — fits standard Jumbo (Big Blue) 10" housings. Suited to small to medium homes, baches, and setups with limited vertical space.
- 20" (500mm) — fits standard Jumbo (Big Blue) 20" housings. Higher dirt capacity and longer service life. Suited to larger homes, high-demand installations, and main water lines.
Both are 4.5" diameter — standard Jumbo / Big Blue sizing.

Frequently asked questions
What is a polyspun filter?
A polyspun cartridge is made by spinning molten polypropylene fibres into a cylindrical shape, creating a depth-filtration structure. The fibres are denser toward the centre and looser toward the outside, which allows the cartridge to capture particles throughout its depth rather than just on the surface.
Which micron rating is right for my supply?
Coarser ratings (20 or 50 micron) suit first stage pre-filtration where sediment is visible — bore, river, or tank water. The 10 micron is a useful middle-ground for moderate fine sediment. Finer ratings (1 or 5 micron) suit second stage or final stage filtration, or where you need to protect downstream equipment such as a UV lamp. If you run two housings in series, use the coarser rating in the first housing and the finer in the second.
Will it affect the taste of my water?
No. The 100% polypropylene construction will not impart any taste, odour, or colour to the water passing through it.
Will it fit my Big Blue housing?
Yes, if your housing is a standard Jumbo (Big Blue) 10" or 20" size. Both cartridge lengths are 4.5" diameter — the Jumbo / Big Blue standard. Check your housing length before ordering — 10" and 20" cartridges are not interchangeable.
Can I use this on bore water?
Yes. The polypropylene material has good chemical resistance and suits bore water well. Choose a coarser rating (20 or 50 micron) for first stage pre-filtration if sediment load is high. Bore water quality varies — get in touch if you'd like help choosing the right setup.
How often do I need to replace it?
Replacement interval depends on your water quality and sediment load. Replace when flow drops noticeably or the cartridge is visibly saturated.
