Fishing Tackle Best Sellers: The Jigging Reels, Rock Combos, Fillet Gloves and Smoker Sawdust Kiwis Are Buying Now

November is here and the water's warming up, which means plenty of Kiwis are dusting off the rods and topping up the tackle box. We've gone through our real orders from the last 90 days in the Fishing Tackle range and pulled out five genuine best sellers we haven't featured in our recent tackle round-ups — from a serious kingfish reel right through to what happens after the catch.

Every price below is the real price on the site today.

1. Tica Tempest TT8000 Jig/Spin Reel — $249.99

Tica Tempest TT8000 jig and spin reel

Our headline pick. Three of these have gone out in the last 90 days, and they're built for the hard stuff — Tica designed the TT8000 for big kingies and snapper. You get a waterproof aluminium body, rotor and forged alloy spool, a hardened stainless main shaft, 8 sealed rust-resistant ball bearings plus an instant anti-reverse roller bearing, and a big waterproof carbon drag rated to 25kg. The 5.2:1 ratio brings back 113cm of line per turn, and the spool holds 700m of PE5 braid or 300m of 10kg mono. It weighs 670g, comes with an oversize Hypalon grip, and Tica backs it with a 10-year warranty. If you're jigging for kings this summer, this is the one people are buying.

2. Fishtech Rock Combo 9ft 2pce — $59.00

Fishtech 9ft rock fishing rod and reel combo

Three sold, and it's the opposite end of the budget. This is a ready-to-go 9ft two-piece rock rod in solid fibreglass with an EVA grip, matched with a size 6000 spin reel already spooled with 25lb mono. Add a sinker, a hook and some bait and you're fishing. It's a popular pick for rock and wharf fishing, a spare rod for visitors, or a first proper setup for a teenager.

3. Sea Harvester Stainless Fillet Glove — $10.00

Sea Harvester stainless steel mesh filleting glove

Eight sold — the busiest product in this round-up. It's made from woven stainless steel and polyester mesh, so it's cut resistant and gives you a better grip on a slippery fish while you fillet. It's machine washable too. Ten dollars is cheap insurance against a sliced hand, which is why plenty of people buy one for the boat and one for the cleaning table. Sizes run M, L, XL and XXL.

4. 21mm 57kg Crane Swivel Sleeves 10pk — $10.99

21mm 57kg 3-way crane swivel sleeves, 10 pack

Six packs sold. These are 3-way crane swivels with a sleeve, in a black finish, for line up to 2.2mm. They're what you reach for when you're building drop rigs, daisy chains and droppers, and with ten to a pack you can tie up a batch of rigs at home before the trip. The lighter 18mm 40kg version for 1.8mm line ($9.99) also sold well.

5. Kilwell NZ Selector Sawdust 5-Pack — $26.29

Kilwell NZ Selector smoking sawdust 5 pack

Four sold, and it's a fun one. If you've got a Kilwell smoker, this sampler pack gives you five 500ml bags to try: Pohutukawa, Apple, Tawa, Beech and Hickory. Pohutukawa and Tawa are Kiwi favourites for fish, and the pack works for poultry, pork, lamb and venison too. It's NZ made from a renewable plantation source — a great way to find your favourite before buying a bigger bag.

Also popular

A couple more that kept turning up in orders: the Sea Harvester Fish Measure ($10.00), which covers crayfish, scallops, snapper, trevally and tarakihi and lives happily in the boat, and Surfcasting Octopus Skirts in 50mm ($6.99 for 10) in a range of lumo colours, from Lures, Jigs & Rigs.

What the order book tells us

This time round it's a real mix: a top-end jigging reel and a budget combo side by side, plus the gear that makes rigging and filleting easier. Pacific Island anglers shop with us too, so if you're fishing from the Islands and after a reel or terminal tackle, get in touch.
