Epoxy Resin NZ — Which Resin Is Right for Your Project? (2026)
Not all epoxy resin is the same. Choosing the wrong type is the #1 beginner mistake. Here's how to pick the right resin for your project.
Casting Resin vs Coating Resin
| Feature | Casting Resin | Coating Resin |
|---|---|---|
| Pour depth | 2-13cm per pour | 3-6mm per layer |
| Cure time | 24-72 hours | 12-24 hours |
| Viscosity | Thin (pours easily) | Thicker (self-levels) |
| Best for | River tables, moulds, embedments | Countertops, artwork, tumblers |
| Heat generation | Low (safe for deep pours) | Higher (thin layers only) |
Our Resin Range
Crystal Clear Casting Resin (Liquid Glass)
- Water-clear finish — perfect for river tables
- Low viscosity for easy pouring
- Available in various sizes
- UV resistant
Ultra Deep Pour Resin
- Up to 13cm in a single pour — saves time on large projects
- Low exothermic reaction — won't crack or yellow
- Ideal for thick river tables and large castings
Polyurethane Resin
- Fast cure — demould in hours, not days
- Available in flexible and rigid formulas
- Great for production casting
How to Mix Resin Correctly
- Read the ratio — Most are 2:1 or 1:1 by volume or weight. Check your specific product
- Use a digital scale — Volume measuring is less accurate
- Pour Part A first — Then add Part B
- Stir slowly for 3-5 minutes — Scrape sides and bottom of cup
- Transfer to a clean cup — Stir another minute (eliminates unmixed resin from cup walls)
Common Mistakes
- Wrong ratio: Even small errors = soft, sticky, uncured resin
- Too cold: Resin won't cure properly below 18°C
- Not mixing enough: Unmixed spots stay liquid forever
- Pouring too deep with coating resin: Causes cracking and yellowing from heat
