It is a 12-strand UHMWPE braid made by Donaghys, and it is what people move to when they have had enough of steel wire — it is far lighter, it does not throw barbs into your hands, and if it ever does let go it drops instead of whipping. 2. Tiedown 35mm Black, 6.5m 1.0T with S-Hooks — $32.00

Six sold, and they tend to go out in pairs or fours. A 35mm webbing ratchet strap with a 1.0 tonne lashing capacity and a 6.5m length — the workhorse size for strapping a bike, a mower, a pallet of gear or a load of timber onto a ute or trailer. Wide enough webbing to spread the load without chewing into what you are tying down, and S-hooks so you can hitch to a rail or a tie point without fuss.

3. Anzor Stainless Captive Pin D Shackles — from $5.99

Six sold in 90 days and a steady seller year-round. The captive pin is the whole point — the pin stays in the shackle body, so you cannot drop it over the side or lose it in the bilge while you are wrestling an anchor swivel in a chop. Stainless, so it lives outdoors happily, and the same shackle gets used for anchor and mooring work, safety chains and general rigging. Sizes from $5.99 up to $11.50 each.

4. TiTAN Endless Sling Towing Line 70T, 10m — $685.00

Four sold — which, at 70 tonnes and $685, tells you these are going to people recovering serious machinery, not a stuck Hilux. An endless round sling has no hooks or hard ends to fail or fly, spreads the load across the whole body, and can be re-rigged in a choker or basket hitch as the job needs. If your work involves logging trucks, diggers, or pulling something out of a paddock that really does not want to come, this is the tool. 5. Longspan & Cantilever Racking Starter Bays — from $490.00

Five of the 2000mm single-sided 4-arm cantilever starter bays sold at $1,192.00, plus a couple of the 2100x1500x900 three-level longspan bays at $490.00. Cantilever racking is the answer when what you are storing is long and awkward — timber, pipe, rope coils, spars, steel sections — because there are no front uprights to fight. Longspan is the better pick for boxed and palletised stock. Both are heavy-duty steel and both are bought by workshops, boatyards and builders who have finally run out of floor.
