NZ Crayfish & Crab Pot Regulations (MPI Rules)

When setting cray pots or crab traps in New Zealand, you must follow MPI fishing rules:

Escape Gaps: Cray pots must include an opening at least 54mm high x 200mm wide.
Mesh Size: A minimum mesh size of 54mm is required for recreational rock lobster pots (our 75mm mesh complies).
Pot Limits: Recreational fishers may use up to 3 pots per person or 6 per boat.
Marking: Pots must be attached to a float clearly marked with the fisher’s name/initials.
Daily Bag Limit: Typically six crayfish per person per day, but regional limits may apply.
