Build your own flounder net — everything you need in one kit. This complete DIY Flounder Net kit pairs commercial-grade Multi Mono mesh with a floating top rope, so the headline sits up in the water column while the lead core bottom rope holds the net down and fishing. Made up by Action Fishing Nets in New Zealand for Kiwi flounder grounds.

  • Floating top rope
  • Lead core bottom rope (choose 5mm or 6mm)
  • Slinging / hanging twine plus 2 needles
  • Tape
  • Step-by-step instructions

Why a floating top rope?

A floating headline lifts the top of the net off the bottom and keeps the mesh standing, which means a taller fishing wall, fewer tangles as the tide turns, and better results over soft mud and weed. The lead core bottom rope tracks the contour of the seabed so flounder can't slip underneath.

Choosing your kit

Pick your mesh size, total net length and lead core diameter from the options above. If you're not sure which combination suits your patch, give us a call — we've been making flounder nets for New Zealand fishers for decades and we're happy to talk it through.

Please check the current set net rules for your area (mesh size, net length, marking and set times) with Fisheries New Zealand before you fish.
