Action Outdoors is proud to present our New Zealand-legal flounder fishing nets, explicitly designed for catching flatfish such as flounder and sole. Our tangle set nets are made from a high-quality commercial grade of 0.28mm or 0.35mm, with a diameter mesh slung very loose to catch maximum fish.

Designed for use in sheltered waters, it is not suitable for surf beaches, dragging, or areas with lots of oysters, shells, etc.

It can be used NZ-wide, subject to MPI rules. Some Local South Island areas require nine-mesh deep nets to protect marine mammals and other protected species.

ย

Our flounder nets come in three standard lengths: 20m 30m, 40m, and 60m, with pockets already sewn in. However, we can custom-make any other net length to fit your needs. We use an 8mm Floating Top Rope for the top of the net, so there is no need for floats, as the Net does not need them.

Requires at least Approx 1kg of anchors per 20m of Net on each end, depending on tidal conditions.

Action Fishing Nets are of the highest quality and slung mounted to catch the most fish for a given length. All our set nets are slung at a 50% slinging ratio, e.g. 2m of mesh for every 1m of the completed fishing net.

Most imported nets are made to a price and not quality and are slung at up to 70% slinging ratio, e.g. for every 2m of mesh, they make 1.4m of the completed net; therefore, when comparing prices of fishing nets, keep these factors of quality in mind.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best flounder net for beginners?

Start with a 30m mono floating top rope flounder net (from $110). Easy to set, easy to pick up, and the floating top rope makes it visible in the water.

Set net or drag net for flounder?

Set nets are best for channels, river mouths, and overnight fishing. Drag nets are more active and fun โ€” great for sandy beaches and family fishing. Both work well.

What mesh size for flounder nets in NZ?

Minimum 100mm mesh for flounder set nets and drag nets in NZ. All our flounder nets meet MPI requirements.

Are Action Outdoors flounder nets NZ made?

Yes โ€” manufactured in our Auckland workshop. Same quality as our commercial fishing nets. Free shipping NZ-wide.

What is the daily bag limit for flounder in NZ?

20 flounder per person in most areas. Minimum size 25cm (most areas). Always check the latest MPI rules for your specific region.
