Stainless Steel Eye Grab Hook - Chain Snubbers. Available in three sizes. 6mm, 8mm and 10mm

Snubbers serve three purposes.

• Noise. It can stop slopping from side to side of the chain in the bow roller.
• The take the load off your anchor winch. Unlike back in the day when winches had 75mm main shafts today they can be as small as 12mm. So it is important that the shaft doesn't get any shock loads applied.
• The most important reason is to introduce some elasticity into your anchor rode if it's all chain. A chain doesn't stretch, or at least the good stuff doesn't if the weather gets extreme, the snubber gives it all some stretch and growability. In doing this it softens the boat ride and helps the anchor hold longer. If you have a Rope to Chain anchor rode then your snubber is already built in.

A snubber should be thought of as a consumable as over a couple of seasons it should have been working hard enough, all without you noticing, that the rope is buggered and needs replacing. Think long, the longer it is the better it'll work and do so for longer.
