How It Works

UV Sterilisation - 55W Chamber

Water passes through the stainless steel UV chamber, where the 55W lamp treats it against harmful micro-organisms. UV treatment works best on water that's already clear, so pairing this unit with sediment and carbon filtration is recommended for optimal results.

Countdown Timer with Alarm

The T-Ballast controller monitors your UV lamp's service life and sounds an audible alarm when it's time for replacement. UV lamps lose effectiveness over time, even while still lit, so the timer removes the guesswork from maintenance.

What's in the Box

  • UV chamber (stainless steel)
  • 55W UV lamp (loose)
  • T-Ballast controller with countdown timer and alarm
  • Mounting brackets

FAQs

Does tannin-stained or discoloured tank water affect UV performance?

Yes. Tannins, iron, and general water colour reduce UV light penetration, which lowers sterilisation effectiveness. If your tank water is stained or has visible colour, a sediment and carbon stage upstream is recommended so the UV lamp works on clear water.

How much power does the 55W lamp draw if it runs continuously?

At 55W running 24/7, that's roughly 1.32 kWh per day (55W x 24 hours). Actual household cost will depend on your local electricity rate.

What does the countdown timer do?

The T-Ballast controller tracks the service life of your UV lamp and triggers an audible alarm when replacement is due. UV lamps lose effectiveness over time; even if they're still glowing, the alarm is your prompt to swap it out before treatment quality drops.

What happens to water treatment during a power cut?

UV sterilisation stops the moment power is lost. Since there's no way to physically flag untreated water, it's worth avoiding water use during outages if UV protection is critical to your supply, or consider a backup power source for the ballast.

Does UV treatment change the taste, hardness, or chemical makeup of the water?

No. UV sterilisation only neutralises micro-organisms using light. It doesn't remove minerals, adjust hardness, or filter out chemicals, so water chemistry and taste are unaffected.

How do I know if the quartz sleeve around the lamp needs cleaning?

A cloudy or scaled quartz sleeve blocks UV light from reaching the water, even if the lamp is still lit. If you notice reduced water clarity results or it's been several months since installation, inspect and wipe down the sleeve as part of routine maintenance, separate from the annual lamp swap.

How often do I replace the UV lamp?

The UV lamp should be replaced every 12 months.

Are connection fittings included?

No. The unit has 25mm connections; you'll need to supply your own fittings to connect it to your pipework. Confirm your existing connection sizes before purchasing.

Do I need bypass valves?

Bypass valves aren't included but are strongly recommended. They let you service the unit and replace the UV lamp without cutting off water to the property. Ask your plumber to include them in the installation.

What warranty does the unit carry?

This unit is covered by a 2-year warranty.
