Flow-activated UV disinfection for existing filter setups. The 33W unit handles up to 30 L/min, while the 48W unit handles up to 45 L/min, with both delivering a 30 mJ/cm² UV dose. The lamp only runs when water moves, with no chemicals added. UV unit only; pre-filtration is required upstream. Includes a 3-year warranty.

Note: This unit includes the UV chamber only; filter housings and cartridges are not included. For the UV treatment to work effectively, pre-filtration needs to be installed upstream of this unit.

How It Works

The UV chamber is installed downstream of your pre-filtration. As water passes through, the lamp treats it for bacteria, viruses, and microbes at a dose of 30 mJ/cm², the recognised level for effective microbiological treatment.

The flow switch handles activation automatically. It powers the lamp on when a tap opens and water moves, then shuts it off once flow stops, preventing water from sitting and warming in the chamber between uses.

Clear water is essential for the UV to work. Sediment and turbidity block UV light from reaching micro-organisms, so pre-filtration upstream is required. Get in touch if you need help configuring the right setup for this unit.

FAQs

Do I need pre-filtration before this unit?

Yes. UV treatment is only effective when water entering the chamber is clear. Sediment and turbidity block UV light from reaching micro-organisms. Pre-filtration is essential. At minimum, a 1 micron sediment stage upstream is recommended. If you're building a new system, get in touch, and we'll help you configure the right pre-filtration to pair with this unit.

Will it work on a low-pressure gravity-fed tank supply?

The unit is rated to a maximum of 116 PSI / 8 bar, with no stated minimum operating pressure. On a gravity-fed system with low header pressure, actual flow through the chamber may sit well under the rated 30 or 45 L/min, so it's worth checking achievable flow against your site's actual pressure rather than assuming the maximum figure applies.

Does UV performance drop at the cold end of the operating range?

The lamp and ballast are built to run across the full 2 to 40°C band, so output should stay stable within that range. Water clarity ahead of the chamber has a far bigger effect on the delivered dose than temperature does.

Can a 33W unit be upgraded to 48W later?

The 33W and 48W use different lamp and ballast combinations rather than one chamber with an optional upgrade. Moving from 33W to 48W later means fitting the 48W lamp and ballast, not a simple lamp swap. If household demand is likely to grow, sizing to the 48W from the start avoids this.

What happens if the lamp fails but the flow switch still detects flow?

The flow switch controls power to the ballast based on water movement alone. It doesn't check whether the lamp is actually producing UV output. If the lamp fails, water continues passing through the chamber untreated while flow is present, since this unit has no separate lamp failure alarm. Replacing the lamp on schedule is what closes this gap.

Does turbidity in the water affect the rated flow figures?

The 30 L/min and 45 L/min figures assume clear, pre-filtered water reaching the chamber. Sediment or turbidity blocks UV light from reaching organisms, lowering the effective dose at the same flow rate. This is the reason pre-filtration upstream is required rather than optional.

What's the difference between 33W and 48W?

Both deliver a UV dose of 30 mJ/cm². The difference is flow rate. The 33W handles up to 30 L/min; the 48W handles up to 45 L/min. Choose based on your household size and peak water demand. Smaller homes and baches suit the 33W; medium to large homes with higher simultaneous demand suit the 48W.

How long does the UV lamp last?

UV lamp life varies with usage; specifically, the volume of water that flows through the system. The more water used daily, the sooner the lamp reaches the end of its effective UV output. UV output degrades before the lamp visibly fails, so don't wait for it to stop glowing. Replace on schedule and clean the quartz sleeve at each lamp change.

What is the quartz sleeve?

The quartz sleeve surrounds the UV lamp inside the chamber, keeping the lamp dry while allowing UV light to pass through to the water. Scale or deposits on the sleeve reduce UV transmission and treatment effectiveness. Clean it at each lamp change and replace if it becomes scratched or cloudy.

Do I need bypass valves?

They're not included but worth adding. Bypass valves let you isolate the UV unit during lamp and sleeve changes without shutting off water to the rest of the house. Ask us about adding a set when you order.

Do I need a plumber to install it?

For most customers, yes, a licensed plumber is the safest path. The unit uses standard 25mm BSP fittings and plugs into a standard 240V outlet. If you're confident with household plumbing, the installation is straightforward. Get in touch if you're unsure.

What warranty does it come with?

3 years, covering the UV chamber and workmanship. The UV lamp is a consumable and is not covered by the product warranty.
