Fishing Tackle Best Sellers: The Crimps, Swivels, Line and Rigs Kiwis Are Buying Now
Every few weeks we go back through our real orders to see what's actually leaving the shelves. This time round in our Fishing Tackle range, the last 90 days tell a clear story: Kiwi anglers are building their own rigs. Crimps, swivels and spools of mono are flying out, alongside ready-to-fish flasher rigs for anyone who'd rather just clip on and drop.
Here are five of the tackle items our customers have been buying the most lately — real sellers, real prices, and nothing we've covered in our last couple of tackle round-ups.
1. Mini Aluminium Crimps, 0.8mm to 1.5mm (100 pack) — $6.00

Twenty packs sold in 90 days, which makes these the busiest little item in the tackle room. If you crimp your own traces, longline snoods or flasher rigs, you go through crimps fast — and at six bucks for a hundred there's no reason to run short mid-session. Sizes run 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.3mm and 1.5mm. A handy tip straight from the product page: pick a crimp one size larger than your line for easier use.

2. Kilwell Mono 1/4 lb Spool, Clear — from $10.99

Eleven spools sold. Kilwell is a name most Kiwi anglers grew up with, and this clear mono is the everyday workhorse: good abrasion resistance, strong knots, and a Kilwell lifetime warranty. You get a lot of line for your money too — the 9lb spool carries 1340m, the 12lb 1000m, right up to 398m of 30lb. People use it to top up reels, tie traces and keep a spare in the boat bag.

3. Bran Swivel 1.80mm + #2 Swivel — $10.00

Ten sold. Bran-style sleeve swivels let you run a snood or dropper off a main line, which is why they're popular with longliners and anyone building ledger-style rigs at home. This one is the 1.80mm sleeve paired with a #2 swivel. If you need a three-way option, the 21mm 57kg crane swivel sleeves (10 pack, $10.99) were right behind it in the order book.

4. Sea Harvester Flasher Rigs (Octopus) — $5.00

Not everyone wants to tie their own, and that's where these come in. A pre-tied flasher rig for snapper and other bottom fish, ready to go straight out of the packet. Hook sizes run from 2/0 through to 10/0, and at five dollars each most buyers grab a few in different sizes so they've got spares when the reef claims one. Seven sold in the last 90 days, plus plenty of the Sea Harvester recurve snapper rigs alongside.

5. Momoi Hi-Catch IGFA Line, 1000m — from $57.50

Our headline pick, with five big spools sold. Momoi's Hi-Catch IGFA line is made to tight tolerances and designed to break just under its IGFA class, so tournament anglers can chase records without worrying about over-testing. It comes in 8kg, 10kg, 15kg, 24kg, 37kg and 60kg, in light blue or fluro yellow, on 1000m spools. It's the line serious game and tournament anglers reach for. Prices run from $57.50 up to $264.00 depending on class.

A couple of others worth a look: the Tica Ezi-Cast EC4000 spin reel ($36.80) is a solid budget reel with a sealed, anodised aluminium spool — find it in Tica Reels — and the Snapper Recurve 4/0 rigs ($5.00) sold just as steadily as the flasher rigs above.
What the order book tells us
Kiwi anglers are a practical lot. The biggest movers are the bits you burn through — crimps, swivels and line — with a few finished rigs and a quality spool of game line mixed in. If you fish from the Pacific Islands and find terminal tackle hard to get locally, get in touch and we'll let you know what we can send your way.
