Outdoor Gear Best Sellers: The Kayak Life Jackets, Bush Knives, Bug Spray and Netting Kiwis Are Buying Now

Summer is close, and with it come paddles on the lake, long weekends at the bach and a bit of tidying up before the visitors arrive. We went through the last 90 days of real orders in our Outdoor Gears range to see what Kiwis have been buying lately. This time we have skipped the items we covered in our last two round-ups and looked further down the list. Here are five genuine recent best sellers.

1. Response MF50S Kayak Life Jacket (Adult, 40kg+, Camo)

Our headline pick for summer on the water. The MF50S is a one-size adult buoyancy vest made for kayaking and canoeing, with deep armholes and soft foam so you can paddle without it getting in the way. A 6-point belt closure with a zip keeps it snug through splashes and chop. It is certified to AS4758.1 2015 and meets NZS 5823:2005, so you know where you stand. Families gearing up for paddling and anyone who wants one jacket that fits most adults have been picking these up.

2. Response P100 Foam Life Jacket XL-2XL (Yellow)

Bigger adults need a jacket that actually fits, and that is exactly why this one sells. The P100 XL-2XL is cut for adults around 60kg and up, with a full foam back panel for even buoyancy, a front zip and dual adjustable waist straps. Bright hi-vis yellow fabric and SOLAS reflective tape help you get seen, and adult sizes come with a whistle. It is fully certified to AS4758.1 2015 and meets Maritime Rule Part 91 and NZS 5823:2005. Boaties, fishers and kayakers who have struggled to find a comfortable fit are the buyers here, and it is a sensible pick for Pacific Islands boat owners too.

3. Truper Bush Knife 250mm with TPR Handle and Sheath

This was the busiest seller of the five over the last three months. It is a compact machete with a 250mm 3Cr13 steel blade and a saw built into the back of the blade, so you can clear scrub and cut back small branches without carrying a separate saw. The textured TPR handle stays grippy when it is wet or sweaty, and it comes with a fitted sheath. Trampers, campers and lifestyle block owners keeping tracks open buy it because it is light, handy and good value.

4. BV2 Surface Insecticide Aerosol 600ml

Warmer weather brings the bugs out, and BV2 sold just as well as anything else in Outdoor Gears over the period. It is an industrial-strength surface spray for cockroaches, fleas, ants, carpet beetles, silverfish, wasps, spiders and other crawling insects, and it works through the insect life cycle from eggs and larvae to adults. It is a dry, non-staining spray that is virtually odourless, and it is MPI approved for food preparation areas. Pest controllers, farms, motels and households opening up the bach or caravan for summer all buy it, and the big 600ml can goes a long way.

5. Golf Course Netting (per metre)

The surprise of the list, sharing the top spot with BV2. This is black knitted polyethylene netting with a 50mm mesh, offered in 2mm or 3.5mm twine and in 150 or 75 mesh depths. Golf clubs and driving ranges use it for ball-stop fencing, and it suits backyard practice nets and sports enclosures too. It is an indent line, sold by the metre, so check the options on the product page before you order.
