If you run heavy tackle offshore, your outrigger bases are doing more work than most skippers realise. Every wave, every long troll, every strike loads that mount — and on a serious boat the base, not the pole, is what decides whether your spread stays clean. The Reelax Outrigger Base Midi 1250mm (SKU RX65250) is built for exactly that job.

What the Midi 1250mm actually is

The Midi is a 1250mm 316 stainless outrigger base, sold as a pair, designed for Reelax scissor-arm outriggers and 130lb-class heavy tackle. It takes poles with a 50mm outside / 47mm inside tube fit, and is intended to be paired with Reelax's stiffest 7.5m poles — which is where the extra base length earns its keep.

Why base length matters

A short base with a long pole is a hinge. The load from a big lure — or worse, a bill wrapped in a leader — gets concentrated at the mount, and you feel it as pole wobble that ruins lure tracking and, in the worst case, as fatigue at the deck. Going up to a 1250mm base spreads that load across a much longer section of tube, so the pole sits where you set it. On a hard-fishing boat, that means:

• A wider, cleaner spread you can actually read
• Lures that stay in the same water instead of dancing with every swell
• Less flex chatter transmitted back through the deck
• Confidence to run heavier gear off the riggers rather than the corners

Who it's for

This is a game-boat part. If you're chasing marlin, big tuna or broadbill off a 8m-plus trailer boat or launch, running 7.5m stiff poles and 130lb tackle, the Midi 1250mm is the base to spec. If you're fishing a smaller hull or lighter tackle, the Reelax Outrigger Base Mini 1000mm (RX65000) or the Junior 600 (RX63000) are the more sensible fit — there's no prize for over-specifying a base your poles can't load up.

Bases are one third of an outrigger system. To finish the job you'll want poles and release gear to match:

Fitting and care

Mount to solid backing — through-bolt into a properly backed section of the gunwale or hardtop, never into unsupported liner. Check the pole fit dry before you commit to holes; 47mm internal means a 47-series pole, not a 40.8. Then treat it like any other 316 fitting on a hard-working boat: a freshwater rinse after every trip and an occasional polish keeps the mirror finish and, more importantly, keeps salt out of the joints.
