Rope Best Sellers: The Coils, Yacht Braids and Pro-Manila Kiwis Are Buying Now
Spring's here, boats are coming out of the shed, and the garden projects are back on the list — which means rope. We've gone back through our real orders from the last 90 days to see what Kiwis have actually been buying from our Rope | Cordage range. We've covered the biggest movers before, so this round focuses on the ropes that keep turning up in orders week after week, plus a couple of full coils for the bigger jobs.
Quick heads-up: a lot of our rope is cut to length and sold by the metre, so you only pay for what you need. Where something comes as a coil, we've said so.
1. NZ Duradan PPE Rope Coils — the all-rounder
If you need a lot of tough, good-value rope, NZ Duradan PPE Rope is the one. It's New Zealand made from a blend of polypropylene and polyethylene, UV stabilised for our harsh sun, and it floats. It gets bought for fishing, aquaculture, boating, trucking and general farm and home use — basically anywhere you want an honest all-purpose rope. It comes in a huge spread of diameters (3mm up to 44mm), colours and coil lengths, from $45.99 a coil. See the range in NZ made polypropylene anchor ropes.
2. Fineline Traditional Yacht Braid — for classic boats
Owners of classic and wooden boats love this one. Fineline Traditional Yacht Braid is NZ made in a tan colour with coloured flecks, so it looks right on a traditional boat without giving up modern performance — high strength, low stretch, and a softer construction that makes splicing easier. Sailors use it for sheets, halyards, downhauls, reefing lines and spinnaker guys. It's sold by the metre in 4mm to 22mm, from $1.26 per metre, up to a 100m spool. 3. Pro-Manila Synthetic Rope — the look without the rot
Pro-Manila is still one of the busiest ropes in the whole store, and it's easy to see why. It has the weathered look of natural manila, but it's made from purpose-made polypropylene fibres, so it won't rot, won't shrink or swell when it gets wet, has no odour and doesn't shed. That makes it a favourite for deck and garden handrails, landscaping, waterfront décor and indoor fit-outs. Sold by the metre from $0.95 per metre (6mm and up). 4. Fineline Lite Line — light, floating and easy to handle
Lite Line is a lightweight floating rope from Fineline, sold by the metre in 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm. Boaties and DIYers pick it up for general tie-downs and everyday jobs where you want something easy to handle and quick to knot, but don't need a heavy load rating — it's designed for non-load-bearing work. It's UV resistant and priced from $1.60 per metre. See more in Fineline marine cordage.
5. Aquatec Mono Rope 8mm x 250m Coil — a working rope
For commercial and serious recreational users, the Donaghys Aquatec 8mm x 250m coil is a proper workhorse. It's a 3-strand rope made from a crushed mono polypropylene/polyethylene blend, with excellent abrasion resistance, shock load resistance and good weathering, and it knots and splices nicely. It's used for marine and fishing work, rural jobs, truck ropes and net head and foot ropes. A full 250m coil is $94.99. Other sizes are in Donaghys Aquatec rope 6mm to 36mm.
