About 0.28mm mono mesh
0.28mm mono is the traditional single-strand flounder mesh — nearly invisible in the water, firm enough to hold its shape, and easy to work with if this is your first net. If you'd rather have the softer, stronger commercial-grade option, look at our Multi Mono 0.12mm x 6-ply kit.
Floating top rope, or floats on the rope?
A floating top rope gives smooth, even lift right along the headline — a consistent wall of mesh with nothing to snag on and nothing to come loose. Floats on the top rope lift at set points instead, standing the net up in arches. Both fish well; the floating rope is the tidier net to set and retrieve.
Tips for a net that fishes
- Sling loose — we build our own nets at a 50% slinging ratio (2m of mesh for every 1m of finished net). Many imported nets are slung tight at up to 70% to save mesh, and they catch less for the same length.
- Allow at least 1kg of anchor per 10m of net at each end, more in a strong tide.
- Best in sheltered harbours and estuaries — not for surf beaches, dragging, or ground with plenty of oysters and shell.
