RV & Motorhome Best Sellers: The Roof Vents, Blinds, Chargers and Bike Racks Kiwis Are Buying Now

Summer touring season is nearly here, and the questions we get from caravan and motorhome owners are shifting. It's less about fixing leaks and more about comfort: fresh air, a dark bedroom at 5am, a charged battery, TV at camp and the bikes along for the ride. This time we looked over six months of real orders (instead of our usual 90 days) to find the RV & Motorhome comfort upgrades Kiwis have been buying. These are genuine recent best sellers.

1. MPK Vision Star Pro L Roof Vent 700 x 500mm – $569.05

MPK Vision Star Pro L 700 x 500mm roof vent in Signal White

Our headline pick, and the biggest-ticket item on the list. Across its Signal White and Cream versions, this German-made roof vent has been one of our steadiest RV sellers over the last six months. A twist-lock handle lets you set the hood at any opening you like, so you can go from a gentle breeze to full airflow. Inside there's a pleated flyscreen and blind, worked by wide railed handles. It fits a 700 x 500mm cutout, so it's a favourite with panel van conversions as well as caravan upgrades, and the materials are UV-stabilised and meet the relevant NZ glazing standards for motor vehicles. The Cream version is $599. More in Motorhome Windows, Doors & Lockers.

2. Horrex DIY Internal RV Blind Kit 872 x 1100mm – $499.00

If summer sunrises wake you too early, this one's for you. The Horrex kit is a cut-to-fit internal blind: it comes at 872 x 1100mm and can be cut down to 473 x 809mm, so one kit suits a wide range of motorhome and campervan windows. It combines a four-layer blackout fabric with a breathable polyester mesh, it runs quietly, and its modular design lets you fit it without specialist tools. It's tagged pre-order, so check the product page for current availability. See the full range in Horrex DIY Internal Blind Kits.

3. CTEK Pro 15S 15A 12V Battery Charger – $455.00

CTEK Pro 15S 15A 12V battery charger and maintainer

Vans that sit in the driveway over winter often come out with a tired battery, which is why this charger keeps selling. The CTEK Pro 15S is a fully automatic 12V charger and maintainer for batteries from 20Ah to 350Ah, with a dedicated lithium mode for LiFePO4 packs from 20Ah to 300Ah. It also has a reconditioning programme for tired batteries, a SUPPLY mode that powers your electronics while the battery is disconnected, and a temperature sensor that adjusts the charge. It's equally at home in the workshop or on the boat. More in Battery Chargers and Electrical & Solar.

4. Maxview Gazelle Roof-Mounted Antenna – $235.00

Maxview Gazelle roof-mounted omnidirectional TV and radio antenna

The Gazelle is an omnidirectional roof aerial for digital terrestrial TV and radio. Because it picks up signal from any direction, there's no aiming to do when you park up somewhere new. It supports SD, HD, 3D and 4K signals and has an aerodynamic foot to keep drag and wind noise down. You can fit it with adhesive sealant or screws, using the included EPDM seal. It's designed and made in the UK and carries a two-year guarantee. Browse TV & Satellite for more.

5. Thule Lift V16 Bike Rack (Manual) – $1,999.99

Thule Lift V16 manual bike rack for motorhomes

Most bike racks don't suit a tall motorhome because lifting an e-bike up to the platform is a real struggle. The Lift V16 fixes that. It mounts on the rear wall and winds down by hand, giving 70cm of height travel so you load at a comfortable level, then winds back up for the road. It carries two bikes (30kg per rail, 50kg in total), takes a third rail sold separately, and uses lockable Thule AcuTight knobs that click when they reach the right torque. Check the product page for current availability. More in Thule Bike Racks.

The Southern Alps 10A Caravan Supply Adaptor ($92) is still the most-bought RV item in our six-month figures, so it's worth having one in the van. For the tow vehicle, the Hayman Reese Aluminium Hitch Step ($129.99) bolts down over your tow ball mount to give you a non-slip step up to the tray or roof racks. Note it can't be used with weight distribution.
