Mullet Kahawai Drag Nets 85mm, 90mm, 100mm
Mullet & Kahawai Drag Nets — 85mm, 90mm, 100mm Mesh
Our mullet and kahawai drag nets are designed for active fishing — pulling the net through shallow water to catch schooling fish. Made in our Auckland factory with heavy-duty materials for repeated use on beaches, estuaries, and river mouths.
3 Mesh Sizes for Different Fish
- 85mm (3¼") — smaller mullet, West Coast style drag netting
- 90mm (3½") — the all-rounder, perfect for average mullet and kahawai
- 100mm (4") — targets larger mullet and bigger kahawai
What Makes a Good Drag Net?
Drag nets need to be tougher than set nets because they're actively pulled through sand, shells, and seaweed. Our drag nets feature:
- Heavier lead-core bottom rope — keeps the net on the seabed while dragging
- Extra floats on top rope — prevents the net from collapsing during the pull
- Strong nylon mesh — 0.50mm to 0.70mm twine that resists abrasion
- Deep mesh (30+ meshes) — creates a wall of netting that herds fish effectively
How to Drag Net for Mullet
Drag netting works best on gently sloping beaches, sandbars, and shallow estuary edges. Two people walk the net in a U-shape through the water, closing the ends together on the beach to trap the fish. It's one of the most effective — and fun — ways to catch mullet in NZ.
All nets are NZ made by Action Outdoors in Auckland. Custom lengths and mesh options available on request.
