CF1900 Utility and Furling Capstan: Smooth, Controlled Lifting for Your Vessel

The CF1900 Utility and Furling Capstan is engineered for calm, controlled lifting and hauling on boats up to 15 meters (48 feet). Powered by a robust 1000W, 12V European-made motor and driven by a precision bronze drum, this capstan delivers steady performance with smart braking, ensuring reliable operation while conserving battery life for routine line work—from sail furling to deck load shifting.

Why the CF1900 Stands Out

  • Power and efficiency: A 1000W, 12V series-wound European motor provides dependable, steady speed with low battery draw per operation—ideal for continuous, on-deck use.
  • Smart braking: Integrated auto brake secures loads when power is off, reducing drift and enhancing control in variable conditions.
  • Durable marine construction: A high-tensile bronze drum is designed to withstand regular deck use and harsh seawater exposure, extending service life.
  • Easy, versatile installation: Mounts on fibreglass or wood decks and accommodates varying deck thickness with a straightforward template—installation in minutes.
  • NZ-made reliability: Built for boats up to 15 m with a focus on safety, reliability, and straightforward maintenance.

How It Works and Practical Use

The CF1900 is a general‑purpose lifting and line-hauling solution tailored for close‑in deck work, furling operations, and routine line handling. Real-world use cases include:

  • Hoisting and guiding anchors or mooring lines with controlled tension to prevent snags or over-tensioning.
  • Furling control and line retrieval where steady, predictable operation matters for smooth sail handling.
  • Deck tasks requiring reliable tensioning with minimal crew effort, from reefing gear to moving heavy loads aboard.

Installation, Operation, and Maintenance You Can Trust

Installation guidance is included to maximize strength and longevity. A quick overview:

  • Position the capstan so the working line feeds smoothly from the guide, around the drum, to a comfortable tailing position.
  • Use the provided template to cut the central hole and drill deck studs; align stud positions for maximum strength relative to the load.
  • Seal edges in fibreglass or wood mounts; consider a spreader plate under the deck if extra stiffness is needed.
  • Prepare the deck with appropriate studs (longer or shorter options available); apply soft-set silicone sealant at the mating face before mounting.
  • Wire the unit with correct polarity; the winch normally runs clockwise—verify rotation with a quick switch test.
  • Each unit is factory load-tested; if it doesn’t operate as expected, re-check installation, wiring, and mounting.
  • Ensure all terminals (motor, switch, breaker, battery, etc.) are firmly tightened and protected per maintenance guidelines.

Ongoing Care

Maintenance keeps the CF1900 performing at its best. Every 6 months, perform the following:

  • Remove the center screw from the top of the drum and lift the drum to access the bearings; lightly grease the synthetic bearings under the drum.
  • Grease the O‑ring seal in the top outer cap, reassemble, and tighten firmly (avoid over-tightening).
  • Follow the maintenance guidelines for sealing, wiring, and general care to ensure long-term reliability on deck.

Designed by Absolute Marine, the CF1900 Utility and Furling Capstan brings precision, durability, and peace of mind to your line handling and furling tasks. If you’re upgrading your anchoring, mooring, or sail handling setup, this capstan delivers consistent performance with straightforward maintenance—so you can focus on the sea, not your gear.
