The History of the Thermette

Invented in 1929 by New Zealander John Ashley Hart, the Thermette quickly became a Kiwi icon. During World War II, New Zealand regiments used it in the deserts of North Africa, where it earned the nickname “Benghazi Boiler.” The kettle’s efficiency and reliability made it essential in tough conditions. After the war, it became a beloved camping staple, symbolising Kiwi ingenuity and outdoor tradition.

Perfect For:

  • Bushwalking & hiking trips

  • Fishing & hunting expeditions

  • Backcountry camping

  • Family picnics and road trips

✅ With the Thermette, there’s no bad cup of tea in the bush.
