Our flounder drag nets are purpose-built for dragging through shallow water on beaches, sandbars, and estuary edges. With extra floats and heavier lead-core rope, these nets stay properly positioned while being pulled — giving you a more effective catch compared to standard set nets.

Built for Dragging

Drag nets take more punishment than set nets, so we build them tougher:

• Braided lead-core bottom rope — heavy enough to maintain ground contact while dragging
• Extra floats on top rope — keeps the net open and upright during the pull
• Heavier lead-core rope — improved net performance on sandy and muddy bottoms
• Durable mesh construction — built to withstand regular use on rough surfaces

How Flounder Drag Netting Works

Two people wade into shallow water and walk the net in a wide arc, closing the ends together on the beach. The lead-core rope keeps the bottom sealed against the sand, while floats keep the top of the net above water. Flounder lying flat on the seabed are herded into the net as it sweeps across the bottom.

Drag netting for flounder is best at low tide when the water is shallow and fish are concentrated in channels and depressions.
