Buck Paklite Field Kit: 631 Field & 635 Cape Orange – Ultralight Dual-Knife System

When every ounce counts in the backcountry, the Buck Paklite Field Kit delivers two purpose-built blades in one ultra-light package. This dual-knife setup is designed for hunters, hikers, and survival-minded explorers who need reliable edge performance without carrying bulk. The 631 PakLite Field is a full-tang, skeletal design that keeps weight to an impressively low level while still delivering the rigidity required for field processing. Its 4.00" blade (10.16 cm), 0.150" thick (4 mm), crafted from 420HC steel, pairs with an orange handle to balance visibility and grip reliability in low-light conditions.

The companion 635 PakLite Cape is a dedicated caping and small-game knife. It features a 2.75" drop point blade (7.0 cm) with a slender 0.110" thickness (3 mm), also in 420HC steel, and a lightweight orange handle designed for quick identification in gear bags. This blade’s shape provides versatile capability for camp tasks beyond caping, making it a practical partner for field dressing and precise detail work.

Smart carry, simple setup: the kit includes a black polypropylene sheath to protect edges and keep gear organized. An optional adapter plate lets you connect the two knives for a single, streamlined carry option—perfect when you want to minimize gear while maximizing accessibility in the field. Total kit weight comes in at just 133 g, making it an unobtrusive addition to any hunting pack, survival kit, or day-hiking setup.

Two blades, one purpose-built kit

  • 631 PakLite Field: 4.00" blade, 0.150" thick, 420HC steel, full-tang, orange GFN handle. Weight: 88 g.
  • 635 PakLite Cape: 2.75" blade, 0.110" thick, 420HC steel, drop point, orange GF handle. Weight: 45 g.

Why it matters in the field: the field knife’s skinning blade excels at clean skinning and detail work, while the cape blade handles caping, small-game tasks, and a broad range of camp chores. The bright orange handles aren’t just for style—they improve retention and quick identification in cluttered packs or low-light conditions, helping you stay organized when speed matters. The full-tang, skeletal 631 design delivers real strength without the bulk, so you can work through field tasks with confidence between sharpenings. The entire Paklite lineup uses sturdy 420HC stainless steel known for dependable edge retention and easy maintenance.

Care and practical tips

Rinse blades after use, dry thoroughly, and store in the sheath. Regularly inspect the edge and refresh it with standard 420HC knife-care tools to maintain peak performance in the field. With proper care, this ultralight duo stays ready to tackle field dressing, skinning, caping, and a host of backcountry tasks season after season.
