The Hayman Reese Friction Sway Control – Standard is purpose-built to pair with weight-distributing systems, delivering calm, controlled towing even through gusty winds and highway crosswinds. By actively restricting and damping movement between the tow hitch and the trailer, it helps prevent sway before it starts, giving you a steadier pull and more predictable handling on every trip.

How it works

This sway controller uses a durable friction material—similar to what’s found in modern disk brakes—paired with a sliding bar and an adjustable lever. As you tow, the device moderates lateral movement, smoothing out sway and reducing oscillations so your trailer tracks more reliably behind your tow vehicle.

Compatibility and installation

• Designed to be used with weight-distributing systems (WDS) and compatible with current WDS heads that include a mounting tab.
• Supports Weight Distribution System heads rated 550 lb, 600 lb, 750 lb & 800 lb, for trailers up to a 200 kg ball weight.
• For older Weight Distribution Systems, a melting tab must be welded to the head; your Hayman Reese distributor can perform this modification.
• For easy reversing, the Friction Sway Controller can be removed quickly and reinstalled when needed.
